Edition 34 | April 2021

Hello Mountain Wine Club! This April, we are bringing you two very hard-to-get mountain wines – the 2018 La Jota Vineyard Co. Howell Mountain Cabernet Franc and the 2016 Restricted Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 La Jota Cab Franc comes from our La Jota Vineyard, which, having been originally planted in 1976, holds one of the oldest Cabernet Franc blocks in the Napa Valley. Over the years, we've planted more due to La Jota Howell Mountain Cab Franc's growing popularity. Even so, this a small production wine, making it a true gem if you can find it.

I'm always excited when we have the chance to share a Restricted wine with you, because these wines are my chance to craft tiny lots of stellar wines that are, quite frankly, pure fun to make. I hand select the fruit from the most isolated and iconic soils in the Napa Valley, like Yverdon Vineyard, home of the 2016 Restricted Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The one unfortunate thing is that they are truly restricted—unless you are a Mountain Wine Club member—the exclusive recipients of this collection.

As you taste and collect these wines, consider the rarity and quality of fruit that went into them and the joy and devotion we feel crafting them. We are so happy to share these super-special mountain wines with you.

Peace,

Winemaker Chris Carpenter

2016 Restricted
Cabernet Sauvignon

Spring Mountain, Napa Valley, CA

“This Spring Mountain Cab showcases an elegant amalgamation of rose petal, dark cherry, and espresso bean notes. There’s a youthful energy on the palate with flavors of dragon fruit and boysenberry segueing to a long finish.”

Single bottle of Restricted Cabernet against a dark background

2018 La Jota Vineyard Co.
Cabernet Franc

Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, CA

“Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with a lifted, perfumed nose of red roses, kirsch, red plums and red currant jelly, followed by hints of mulberries, pencil shavings and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with taut, muscular red fruit, framed by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with loads of earthy sparks.”
